Webster, vice president for governmental affairs (VPGA) at Michigan State University since 1995. He is responsible for advancing the strategic interests of MSU through government relations on the community, local, state, and federal levels. Additionally, his office has the important and growing responsibility of encouraging the economic growth of Michigan and the greater Lansing region through strategic partnerships linking university, government, nonprofits, and business assets. He is responsible for relationships between MSU administrators and faculty and local, state, and federal government policymakers; he also functions as the university lobbyist on the state level. His recent projects include the formation of the Michigan University Research Corridor (URC), the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP), and the Prima Civitas Foundation. Topic: Budget Negotiations with the State of Michigan and the Role for MSU Retirees. Location: Community Room, 600 E. Crescent Road, MSU Federal Credit Union, first floor, just off Harrison Road in East Lansing. MSU retirees, spouses, and friends invited. TOUR -- November 12, 2009, at 2:00 PM. Meet at the John and Marnie Demmer Shooting Sports Education and Training Center, 3365 East Jolly Road, Lansing (on Jolly Road, just east of College Road) for a one-hour tour. The Center is a 24,000 sq ft, multi-purpose facility supporting NCAA Shooting programs and team sports, the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), and hunter safety and 4-H youth programs to name a few. It also houses MSU club shooting sports (including small bore, air rifle, and archery) and academic programs in shooting sports, law enforcement, and related curricula. The Center will serve as the training site for future national championship caliber collegiate shooting sports teams. The facility will also provide space for public shooting sports education courses and extramural enjoyment opportunities for the public. Two indoor ranges will accommodate small-bore, air rifle and archery; an outside archery park will include beginner, field, and competitive ranges. The Demmer Center is open to MSU faculty, staff, students, and the public.
