MSURA Board and Chairs Retreat

Room 10B Nisbet Building

Present: Angela Brown, Chuck Webb, Mike Gardner, Louise Selanders, Nancy Craig, Marilyn Rothert, Al LeBlanc, David Brower, Rick Vogt, Ron Smith, Trish Horn, Jacqie Babcock, Brenda Spackman, Gale Gower

The retreat was opened at 1:10 p.m. with a welcome from Angela Brown and introductions by those present.

-A discussion of the MSURA Operations Manual included a review of the voting members on the Board. There are between 22-24 voting members. Non-voting members are the chairs of the audit committee, awards committee, bylaws committee, faculty emeriti committee, and the United Way committee. A 2/3 quorum is needed to call a vote, and a simple majority is needed to pass a vote.

Job descriptions were discussed. Marilyn Rothert will review the description related to the Health Benefits section.

-It was decided that E-notices will go out once a month opposite the publication of the newsletter.

-A group headed by Rick Vogt and Mike Gardner will review the bylaws.

-Angela commended Rick Vogt and Etta Abrahams for getting the speakers lined up for the general membership meetings for 2015-2016.

-It was suggested that the agenda for the board meetings be sent out a week prior to prepare everyone for the meeting.

-A discussion concerned the need of MSURA to communicate with our members. A retreat is planned to address several issues regarding communications, including MSURA philosophy, financial questions, MSURA partnerships, Dave Bower and Rick Vogt will head the retreat. It will report back no later than the October MSURA board meeting.

-Angela suggested members call her if there is an urgent matter to be addressed.
