ADOPT-A-FAMILY IN NEED THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
Participate in the annual 2024 Adopt-A-Family Program sponsored by the MSU Safe Place. Safe Place was established in 1994 by MSU First Lady Joanne McPherson as a facility and a support program for students experiencing domestic violence. Over the years, Safe Place has grown to provide advocacy, shelter, and safety planning to survivors of relationship violence and stalking. It is located on the MSU campus and now serves students, faculty, staff, and their spouses/partners. They provide shelter and other services to all identities, including persons in same-sex relationships, identifying as non-binary or trans, with disabilities, and from various racial and ethnic backgrounds.
The Adopt-a-Family Program helps families in need during the Holiday season. Safe Place obtains a wish list of gifts and essential items from a family being served. This year our family includes a single parent (mother), and 3 children (2 boys ages 2 and 14; and a 16 year-old girl)
Without this progeram, participants would not have much of a Holiday. You can purchase gifts and essential items from the wish list or purchase gift cards. The gift list is available at ( https://retirees.msu.edu/_files/FilesRefByMainPages/Adopt-A-Family.html ). After selecting an item/gift from the list, please type your name in the last box to prevent duplicate purchases. Unwrapped gifts and essential items can be dropped off at the December 9th MSURA monthly meeting or you can request a pick-up at your residence before December 16. Call (517) 290-7750 for additional information. You may also mail a gift card to MSU Retirees Association, Attn: Bill Anderson, Suite 22, 1407 Building, 1407 S. Harrison Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823-5239.
First for this year, a “Wrap Party” will be held Tuesday, December 17th 10am-4pm at the MSURA office, Suite 22, 1407 Building, 1407 S. Harrison Rd, East Lansing, MI. Volunteers are welcome. You can spend part of that day wrapping the donated items with other volunteers.
Please indicate your attendance by sending an email to ander113@msu.edu or calling (517) 290-7750 before December 16th. We are asking each attendee to bring a roll or wrapping paper, ribbon and a pair of scissors. We will provide beverages, snacks, and Holiday music.
Please consider assisting a Spartan family in need.
